Things that would never happen in America

Every once in a while we look at each other and repeat these words: "There is no way that would ever happen in America." Here's one example from tonight. The road outside of our house has been shut down since Friday night- they have been tearing up the old road and laying new asphalt. Every day we've taken Gavin out several times during the day to watch the trucks working. So, tonight was no different- we put Carter in the backpack carrier and headed out to watch the trucks. We were standing beside the road 10 feet from the paver watching. I could barely believe it when the barefoot, shirtless driver of the paver called out to us and asked if Gavin wanted to ride. What?! So, JB put Gavin up in the seat next to the driver and he rode with him for 10 minutes (and even got to push the yellow button to make the horn blow!) while JB walked along next to him. When his 'ride' was over the driver lowered him down to JB by his arms over the side of the paver!!! I'm sure our son riding on a paver would get any PennDOT worker fired very quickly! Not to mention how much trouble would he have gotten in for working barefoot?! Either way- Gavin hasn't stopped talking about seeing "rolly" (the steam roller) and riding on the paver -all evening! If only we had had out camera with us! JB took a pic on his phone, but it's not very good quality :(
